Bhubaneswar: Vikram Deb (autonomous) College, one of the oldest colleges in Odisha, was upgraded to the status of university, after the approval of Chief Minister, Thursday.
“In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) and (2) of Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989, the state government do hereby alter the territorial jurisdiction of Berhampur University by establishing a new university called the ‘Vikram Deb ‘ University at Jeypore, Koraput, Odisha with effect from the date of notification in the Odisha Gazette,” states a notification issued by the Higher Education department, Thursday.
The college was established by the Maharaja of Jeypore, Vikram Deb IV in 1947 and was named after him. The institute will celebrate its ‘Platinum Jubilee’ from tomorrow, which will be inaugurated by the CMO.
