Bhubaneswar: In a bid to spread awareness about stray dog sterilisation, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India volunteers, dressed as giant condoms, staged a demonstration at Lower PMG here Friday. The PETA volunteers were seen holding posters that read ‘Dogs Can’t Use Condoms. Sterilise Them’. “Ahead of World Spay Day (February 28) our goal is to help residents brush up on ABCs: Animal Birth Control,” said PETA India campaigns manager Radhika Suryavanshi.
Every year, millions of dogs and cats suffer on the streets or languish in animal shelters because of lack of adequate good homes for them,” Radhika said. She also said, “PETA urges everyone to get dogs and cats sterilised. And if you’re considering welcoming a dog or a cat into your family, never buy one – always adopt a homeless animal instead. Countless strays end up in animal shelters as there aren’t enough good homes for them. Every time someone buys a dog or a cat from a breeder or a pet store, a homeless animal roaming the streets or waiting in an animal shelter loses a chance at finding a home.”
