Bhubaneswar: Thousands of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers of Odisha have again staged protests over their 13-point charter of demands at Lower Post Master General (Lower PMG) area in Bhubaneswar, a source said Wednesday.
The ASHA workers alleged that despite their repeated protests, the state government has not paid heed to their demands.
The agitating ASHA workers warned that they will boycott the upcoming 2024 General and Assembly elections if their demands are not fulfilled by the government in a time-bound manner.
One of the protestors told that they demanded a minimum monthly salary of Rs 26,000. She went on to highlight their hard work from 2006 while claiming that their contribution has led to decrease in infant and maternal mortality rate in Odisha.
The protestor also stated that they were the Covid-19 warriors when the pandemic hit the country in 2020.
It can be mentioned here that earlier the ASHA workers had been demonstrating in Bhubaneswar, but later they postponed it after the state government’s assurance to consider their demands.
