Berhampur: A 30-year-old woman and her 42-year-old lover were arrested in connection with the murder of her 37-year-old husband in Odisha’s Ganjam district, police said Friday.
The deceased, identified as Gariba Das, was the driver of prime accused Santosh Das’s tractor.
He had allegedly killed Gariba by pushing him into a well in his field and throwing a huge rock at him, while the woman, Sudeshna Das, had hatched a conspiracy to kill her husband and had a long conversation over the phone with Santosh before the incident, a police officer said.
The incident took place in Angargaon village in Beguniapada area January 28. The body was found the next day and a probe was launched.
“During the investigation, it was found that Sudeshna and Gariba always quarrelled as he suspected that she was having an affair with Santosh.
“As per their murder plan, Santosh had asked Gariba to come over to his field on the pretext of guarding his crops from wild animals. After both consumed liquor, he pushed Gariba into the well and threw a large stone at him, seriously injuring his head and killing him on the spot,” Purna Chandra Pradhan, inspector in-charge of Beguniapada police station, said.
Further investigation proved the involvement of Santosh and Sudeshna and they were arrested on Thursday, he added.
