Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday announced Tankadhar Tripathy as its candidate for the upcoming by-poll to the Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency in Odisha, party leader Subash Panigrahi informed.
The saffron party will make a formal announcement in this regard soon, said Panigrahi.
Tripathy currently holds the post of BJP State Secretary of Odisha unit.
On the other hand, the ruling BJD has already named Dipali Das — daughter of slain minister Naba Kishore Das — as its candidate for the by-election.
Meanwhile, Congress named Tarun Pandey as its candidate for the upcoming by-poll.
Tarun Pandey was selected by a committee led by senior leader and MLA Santosh Singh Saluja. Today, his candidature was approved by All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge.
The voting for the by-poll will be held May 10 and the counting of votes will take place May 13.
The by-poll was necessitated following the assassination of the then-sitting MLA Naba Kishore Das January 29, this year.
