Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Thursday issued a Yellow Warning (be updated) for several districts of Odisha.

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) over the next four to five days throughout the state.

Upto 8.30 AM of April 28: As per the Yellow Warning, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Koraput districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, hailstorm is likely to occur at one or two places over Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Mayurbhanj districts.

Besides that, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at few places over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of April 28 to 8.30 AM of April 29: IMD issued an Orange Warning (be prepared) along with a Yellow Warning (be updated) for several districts of Odisha.

As per the Orange Warning, thunderstorm with lightning, hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.

In the same timeframe, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.

Apart from that, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of south interior Odisha and at a few places over the remaining districts of the state.

Impact & action suggested:

  • People are advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
  • Harvesting of Rabi crops may be regulated judiciously.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Boudh, Angul, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershower would occur towards afternoon or evening. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 37 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 38.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Talcher and the lowest minimum temperature of 20.4 degree Celsius was recorded at Nabarangpur in Odisha.
