Cuttack: The people of Odisha paid rich tributes to Utkal Gauraba Madhusudan Das on his birth anniversary Friday.
Notably, Das’ birthday anniversary is also observed as Lawyers’ Day in the state.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of Madhusudan Das, various events were organised across the state. People paid their respects by offering flowers at his statues across the state including his birthplace in Cuttack.
The legendary figure, who is also known as the ‘Utkal Gauraba’ (Pride of Odisha), was born April 28, 1848, in Cuttack.
Several politicians and social activists also paid tributes and highlighted his role in shaping modern-day Odisha.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid tributes to Madhusudan Das. He also stated that ‘Madhu babu’ played a major role in the Odia language movement as well as the formation of Odisha. He added that ‘Madhu babu’ will be remembered for his contributions towards the Odia language, literature, and industrialisation in the state.
Notably, Madhusudan Das was a lawyer, writer, and social reformer who played a crucial role in the formation of the state of Odisha. He also founded ‘Utkal Sammilani’ in 1903 for the unification of Odisha. He is remembered for his efforts to uplift the oppressed and downtrodden sections of the society.
Das was a multifaceted personality who made significant contributions in various fields. He was the first graduate and postgraduate of Odisha. He was also a prolific writer, and his literary works are considered as a treasure trove of Odia literature. The life and work of Madhusudan Das continue to inspire and guide the people of the state.
