Bargarh: Officials of the Vigilance department Tuesday arrested an IIC of police in Bargarh district for possession of disproportionate assets (DA). Vigilance sources here said Birabar Bhagat, IIC, of Gaisilet police station has been arrested and is being forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance in Sambalpur. Assets worth over Rs 2.50 crore have been recovered from Bhagat and his family members. A case has been registered against Bhagat and his spouse under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC Amendment Act, 2018.
During the simultaneous raids that were launched Monday, Vigilance sleuths found one double-storied house at Sambalpur worth over Rs 77 lakh, one farm house worth about Rs 21 lakh, land in Sambalpur town and Bonai in Sundar-garh worth over Rs 1.11 crore, bank, insurance deposits and investment in debentures worth approx Rs 16.68 lakh, 166gm of gold jewellery, Rs 79,460 in cash, two four-wheelers worth Rs 13.65 lakh, two two-wheelers and household articles worth over Rs 9.41 lakh. After a thorough search, inventory, and further inquiry, the assets of Bhagat were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets that are 179 per cent higher than his known sources of income. Investigation of the case is on, sources said.
