Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon Thursday advanced into some parts of southern Odisha triggering heavy rains and bringing much respite to the people reeling under months-long scorching summer and intense heatwave conditions in the state.
IMD sources said the southwest monsoon advanced to most areas of Malkangiri, Koraput and some areas of Gajapati district Thursday.
The weather conditions are now very favourable for further advancement of monsoon in other parts of Odisha over the next two days.
Meanwhile, hour-long incessant rains in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack this morning caused water logging in several low-lying areas and some parts of the twin city.
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm had occurred at a few places over the districts of north Odisha and south Odisha with heavy rainfall at one or two places over the district of coastal Odisha, Met sources said.
However, heat to severe heat wave conditions prevailed in some parts of western Odisha where the day temperature continued to hover above 40 degree Celsius.
