Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday approved 21 road projects worth Rs 158 crore covering 172.53 km in Malkangiri district.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), these road projects will improve connectivity in Chitrakonda, Kalimela, Korukonda and Podia blocks of the tribal-dominated district. The projects will be taken up by the Rural Development (RD) department under the Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana-Connecting Unconnected Villages in Difficult Areas (MMSY-CUVDA), it said.
A pathbreaking initiative fully funded by the state government, MMSY-CUVDA reflects its commitment to improve rural connectivity in Maoist-affected and challenging areas. It marks a significant boost to the infrastructure development efforts in the state, it pointed out.
The suggestions for these projects have been made in the public grievance interaction during the Malkangiri district visit of 5T Secretary VK Pandian. The Chief Minister was briefed by the 5T Secretary on the significance of these projects, and the Chief Minister immediately directed the RD department to prepare the estimates for the projects.
The RD department took up the survey and estimates on top priority and submitted those for government approval. According to the CMO, the (32km) road from Muduliguda to Amalibeda in Chitrakonda will be constructed at a cost of Rs 30 crore, while Pollur to Kursanpalli, another key road (11.6km), will be built at a cost of Rs 9 crore, the CMO said.
