Bhadrak: A 45-year-old man strangled his wife and minor son to death over a suspected family feud at Kushagadia village under Bhandaripokhari police limits in the district here late Sunday night, an official said, Monday. Umesh Nayak, a truck driver, of Kushagadia village, frequently quarrelled with his wife Kanchanbala Sethi, 32, over financial issues. He often came home drunk and beat his wife mercilessly, said a police official, quoting family members. A neighbor was the first to spot Kanchanbala and her son Utkal, 7, lying lifeless in the house in the morning and inform the police.
On being informed, Bhandaripokhari police reached the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem. “The incident took place late Sunday night when the woman and her son were asleep. Umesh strangled the two to death and fled the place soon after. He was hiding atop a tree on the outskirts of the village.
Villagers caught him and handed him over to police in the afternoon,” Bhandaripokhari inspector in-charge (IIC) Tapan Pradhan said. A case has been registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Kanchanbala’s brother and a probe is on into the incident, added the IIC.
