Cuttack: Two men impersonating police officers looted around Rs 2 lakh from a jewellery trader in Odisha’s Cuttack, a source said Saturday.
The victim was identified as Pankaj Sahoo. He is a Dhenkanal-based jewellery shop owner.
According to the source, Sahoo had come to Cuttack Friday to purchase gold and silver ornaments.
Sahoo alleged that he was stopped by two-wheeler-borne miscreants near Cuttack’s Nayasarak area. They introduced themselves as police officers and showed him their identity cards in which they wore police uniforms.
Afterwards, the duo asked Sahoo to show the items he was carrying in his bag. The miscreants took away Rs 2 lakh from him on the excuse of checking, Sahoo added.
Sahoo further informed that the two persons were communicating in Hindi and Odia.
An FIR in this regard has been lodged by Sahoo at Lalbag Police Station.
The source informed that Sahoo often came to Cuttack to buy jewellery items which he would later sell at his own shop in Dhenkanal.
