Bhubaneswar/ Koraput: The Special Task Force (STF) Friday arrested an individual under charges of cheating and impersonation. The accused claimed to be an RTI activist, said a source.
The accused has been identified as Kishore Kumar Mishra, who is a resident of Berhampur but was staying in Koraput for the past several years.
According to the source, STF has also seized a counterfeit ID that had the name of I&PR Department of the Odisha government.
The bank accounts of Mishra disclosed notable deposits totalling more than Rs2 crore over the past two to three years with many bulk deposits, added the source.

The accused was arrested based on an FIR lodged April 25, 2023, at the Koraput Town Police Station. Subsequently, the STF took over the case.
The STF stated in a release that Kishore was engaged in cheating and extortion by falsely presenting himself as an RTI activist. Additionally, he deceived individuals by asserting his alleged proximity to senior officers and his capability to facilitate licenses for crushers, liquor, as well as transfers and postings.
Further investigation in connection with the incident is underway.
