Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia playback singer Pranab Kishore Patnaik was admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar due to health complications, a source said Thursday.
“He tested positive for dengue and was admitted to a hospital. Now, he has recovered but will stay at the hospital for some more days because of weakness,” informed his wife Kasturika Patnaik.
Meanwhile, a team of delegates met the ailing singer on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s direction and conveyed a message wishing him speedy recovery.
Born January 20, 1938, Pranab began his musical journey in 1958 when he made his debut in the film ‘Maa’. With his melodious voice, he struck a chord with music lovers from his very first playback song. Patnaik lent his voice to different genres of music such as Odissi, bhajans, semi-classical, traditional, folks and ghazals over his career spanning decades.
Patnaik also got the opportunity to sing with renowned singers including Usha Mangeshkar, Bhupinder Singh, Hemelata, Vani Jayram and S Janaki. He was conferred with Jayadev Samman — the highest film award in Odisha — for 2016.
