Phulbani: A cattle herder was shot dead allegedly by a farmer at Brahmanigaon village under Khariguda police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, a source said Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Madi Padra.
Police have arrested the accused Akash Padra.
According to the source, Madi’s cattle damaged the maize farm of Akash. The accused got angry over this and allegedly shot at Madi with a countrymade gun Friday.
The source further informed that in the evening, the victim’s family members began to search for him as he didn’t return home. Later, they found his body lying on the farm.
Subsequently, an FIR was lodged in this regard by Madi’s family members. Based on the FIR, police arrested Akash.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
Madi’s son Dharmendra Padra claimed that no crops were damaged and his father as well as the cattle were far away from the farm. He alleged that Akash shot his father without any provocation.
