Bhogarai: In a tragic incident, an Anganwadi worker died and her husband, a teacher, lost his left hand after a dumper collided with the scooty they were riding at Thana Chowk under this block in Balasore district Sunday. The driver and the helper fled the spot leaving behind the dumper after the accident. The deceased AWC worker was identified as Jayashree Das Mohapatra and the injured was identified as her husband Achint Das Mohapatra of Rasalpur village under this block.
As per reports, Achint along with his wife Jayashree was going to Kalahi village on a scooty to attend the death anniversary of his father-in-law. A speeding sand-laden dumper (Regd No-OD 01 AR 6250) hit their scooty from behind in which the couple fell on the road and got crushed under the rear wheel of the dumper. The left hand of Achit and both legs of his wife Jayashree were crushed under the wheel. Locals immediately rescued them from under the dumper and rushed them to Jaleswarpur community health centre. As their conditions deteriorated, both were being shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar in an ambulance.
However, Jayashree died near Basta bypass on the way and Achint is undergoing treatment at a private nurshing home in Bhubaneswar. Jayshree’s body was handed over to family members after a post-mortem was conducted at Basta community health centre while the left hand of Achint was amputated. He is fighting for his life at a nurshing home in Bhubaneswar.
As per sources, Jayashree was working as an Anganwadi worker in Rasalpur and Achint is a teacher at Pantei ME School. A pal of gloom descended both at her own village as well as her in-laws’ village after the news spread. Police investigation is underway after a case was registered at Bhograi police station.
