New Delhi: The mobile phone screens of many citizens continued to flash with a loud ‘beep’ sound as the Indian Government carried on with its Emergency Alert System’s test across the country today, October 10.
The Indian Government carried out its nationwide testing of the Emergency Alert System, resulting in the continued activation of mobile phone screens with a loud ‘beep’ sound for many citizens throughout the country.
For some time now, the government has been testing an emergency alert system on phones to help the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) send real-time alerts to citizens during emergencies such as earthquake, flashflood and others.
The message read, “This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through Cell Broadcasting System by Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end. This message has been sent to TEST Pan-India Emergency Alert System being implemented by National Disaster Management Authority. It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies.”
