Keonjhar: A man sustained critical injuries after he was mauled by a bear at Medinpur village under Banspal block in Keonjhar district Saturday early morning.
The injured person was identified as Nidhi Khuntia, 48, a native of the village. Forest officials and family members rescued and admitted him at the district headquarters hospital in Keonjhar.
The incident took place when Khuntia had gone to attend the call of nature to Siddhamatha jungle near Badaghagra at 6am Saturday. A bear attacked him there and rendered him critical by mauling his neck, chest, face and head.
Family members rescued him when he screamed for help. On being informed, Suakati forester Jyotirmayee Pattnaik and Anjar forest guard Chandrakanta Mohanta rushed him to the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital.
Villagers demanded that the Forest department should bear all the expenses of Khuntia’s treatment and provide him with adequate compensation
