Rourkela: Rourkela will witness a massive deployment of police force for the peaceful celebration of Durga puja festival in the city.
Speaking to the media, Rourkela SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra said, “This time we are going to deploy 24 platoons of force in different parts of the city. Furthermore, 403 home guards are to be deployed at different spots including puja pandals and busy junctions. Besides, 11 ASP and DSP level officers, three inspectors and 96 SIs/ ASIs will assist for smooth control of crowd including traffic. In addition to this, all the IICs will take care of their own PS areas.”
The administration also held two rounds of extensive discussions with the office bearers of all puja committees and also the members of Central Puja Committee. The committees have been asked to install CCTVs and have their own volunteers to control the crowd and to keep a close watch on cleanliness and the environment.
Notably, this year the administration will award the best three pandals with cash awards. All the pandals will have different entry and exit points, the SP said. Pandal hopping will be over by 11 o’clock at night.
Meanwhile, police have made preventive arrest of history sheeters and also those who had jumped bails. This Dussehra, the Steel City is set to host over 150 pujas, big and small. The immersion will take place October 25.
