Balasore: An Odia jawan Wednesday succumbed to his injuries from a landmine explosion allegedly planted by Maoists at Rengabai forest in Chhattisgarh.
The jawan was identified as Prakash Chandra Sial who served in the Border Security Force (BSF). He was from Gopalpur village under Bahanaga block in Balasore district.
According to a source, Sial was part of the forces tasked with providing security to the polling team in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker Tuesday. While on duty, he accidentally stepped on a landmine suspected to have been planted by Maoists, resulting in a serious injury.
Following the explosion, he was admitted to a hospital in Raipur for medical care. However, he passed away Wednesday.
Notably, Sial had joined BSF in 2004. He is survived by his wife and two sons. He also leaves behind two brothers and a mother who is a widow.
It’s worth noting that Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh commenced November 7 and are set to continue till November 17.
