Rourkela: Rourkela sub-collector Bijay Kumar Nayak appealed Friday to all those who have not applied for their voter cards to do so immediately. He also urged the existing voters to register their names for the upcoming Lok Sabha and the Odisha Assembly elections due in the first half of 2024. The final preparation of the electoral rolls will begin soon, he informed. Nayak made the observations while speaking at a function here organised on the occasion of National Press Day. “I request all my media friends to help in this regard. The last date for registering for the electoral rolls is December 9, 2023. Those eligible to vote should immediately register themselves when election officials visit their respective areas.” Nayak stated.
He, however, was quick to add that registration for the voters’ lists has been slow despite the best efforts of the administration. “We are trying to develop awareness among the people regarding the importance of exercising their franchise.
However, the pace of registration is very slow, especially in the Raghunathpalli constituency,” Nayak added. Nayak added that there will be no further extension of registration date after December 9. “The final electoral roll will be published January 5, 2024,” Nayak informed. As per the last elections, there were 1,79,140 voters in the Rourkela Assembly constituency and. 2,49,428 in Raghunathpalli, Nayak said.
