Gopalpur: Police here recovered Monday the body of a missing youth from an abandoned well near the railway tracks at Chandapur village under Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district. The deceased youth was identified as Tutu Naik, 37, a native of Gobindapur village also under Golanthara police station limits. Officials said that they suspect it to be a case of murder. According to the information available, Tutu had developed an extra-marital relationship with a married woman from Chandapur village. Unhappy over the development, the brother and father of the woman had threatened Tutu and warned him of dire consequences.
However, Tutu went on meeting the woman despite warnings. Tutu went to see the woman Saturday evening after the latter called him over the telephone. However, he did not return home that night. Unable to trace Tutu, his family members lodged a complaint at the Golanthara police station. Police while investigating the case, found Tutu’s towel and slippers near Chandapur school Monday morning. Using a sniffer dog they traced his body near the railway tracks. Berhampur Sadar SDPO Shiba Shankar Mohapatra and IIC Bibekananda Mahanta later said that deep wound marks have been found on the head and face of the deceased. They said that it is suspected Tutu had been attacked by 4-5 miscreants and brutally murdered.
Police informed that Tutu’s body has been sent for postmortem and they are investigating the case (Complaint No595/23). They said they are hopeful of solving the case soon. Mahanta said that police are confident of cracking the case and asserted that the culprits will be arrested soon.
