Ghasipura: At least five persons including two women sustained critical injuries while several others were injured in a group clash allegedly over past political enmity at Agarda village under Ramchandrapur police limits in Keonjhar district, Tuesday night.
The critically injured persons were identified as Golak Jena, Sanjay Jena, Tima Jena, Dahani Jena and Purnima Jena of Agarda village. All of them were rescued and admitted to the Anandapur sub-divisional hospital for treatment.
Reports said that the clash was a fallout of a simmering tension between two groups of villagers over past political enmity in the village. The dispute was resolved after police intervened in the matter.
However, the issue flared up again Tuesday when the members of the two groups pelted stones and assaulted each other with lathis. Several persons were injured including five critically in the violence.
On being informed, Ramchandrapur police reached the village and launched an investigation into the group clash. Police registered two separate cases over complaints filed by each group.
Police force has been deployed in the village. The violence taking place ahead of the 2024 general elections has posed challenges for the police.
