Bhubaneswar: A businessman who was kidnapped from near his residence in Khandagiri area here over ransom demand Thursday was rescued by the Commissionerate Police from a hideout in Jajpur with the arrest of the three alleged kidnappers. ACP, Zone III, Pradeep Kumar Rout said a team from Khandagiri police station, acting on a tip-off, rescued Pintu Sahu, a resident of Kinjal Garden in Patrapada from an abandoned cottage near Arua under Dharmasala police limits in Jajpur district. The accused trio will be produced before a local court Saturday, he said. Pintu, according to police, was kidnapped in a red i20 car by three unidentified miscreants while returning home Thursday night.
Later, the miscreants made a live video call to Pintu’s wife showing him being thrashed by them. They also threatened the hapless woman to pay up Rs 10 lakh ransom, failing which they threatened to kill Pintu. Unable to arrange the demanded amount, Pintu’s wife claimed to have transferred Rs 2 lakh to a bank account mentioned by the accused. Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said preliminary investigations have revealed that Pintu had some monetary disputes with the accused. “Further investigation in the case will elicit more details,” he added. The accused have been booked by Khandagiri police under Sections 363, 365,323 and 34 of IPC.
