Puri: Puri Additional Sessions Judge Ramanath Panda Friday sentenced a man to ten year Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs. 20,000 for raping a minor girl.
According to the Prosecution, one Akshyaya Kumar Parida (42) of Gunduchipatana village under the Delang police station limits had abducted a minor girl in November 2013 to a nearby bush while she was on her way to attend tuition and raped her.
He left the girl threatening her not to disclose anything about the incident or else he will kill her.
The victim girl managed to reach the tuition and fell unconscious.
When regained sense, she narrated her ordeal before the teacher and her parents.
Her parents filed a complaint with the Delang police station.
The police registered a rape case under 376 (2) (i) of POCSO act and arrested the accused. Police filed the chargesheet in the court.
The trial which continued for nearly a decade found the accused guilty.
The Sessions Judge while delivering the judgment directed the legal services authority to pay Rs.5 lakh to the victim girl, Additional public prosecutor Bahan Parida who conducted the case on behalf of the government said.
