Rupsa: A 20-year-old youth was brutally killed near a prawn gheri in Gandhia village under Singla police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district, late Friday night.
The deceased youth has been identified as Jagabandhu Swain, a resident of Patagaon village under Sadar police station limits in Balasore district.
According to sources, Jagabandhu along with his wife Taramani was residing and working in a prawn farm near Gandhia village. Jagabandhu went outside Friday evening to attend the call of nature. When he did not return home till late night, her wife searched for him frantically but could not find him. Saturday morning, when Taramani went outside, she found her husband lying dead near the farm and immediately informed the owner of the farm.
On being informed, Singla police station IIC Bhubanananda Sethi along with his team reached the spot and after preliminary investigation suspected it to be a case of murder. A forensic team along with a dog squad was also pressed into action.
After registering a case (No- 71/24) at Singla police station, police seized the body and sent it to hospital for postmortem.
It is suspected that Jagabandhu was brutally hacked to death due to past enmity and acid was poured on his body to destroy evidence.
“The exact reason behind the brutal murder will be ascertained after investigation and getting the postmortem report,” said IIC Sethi.
