Rourkela: A six-month-old girl child died and her mother was rendered critical after the two-wheeler they were travelling on was hit by a speeding truck Friday evening in Sundargarh district.
The condition of the woman admitted to VIMSAR at Burla is stated to be out of danger. As per information, one Muni Pradhan was coming to Sundargarh from Bargaon on a scooter. Muni’s sister was driving the scooter, who survived the accident with minor injuries. A speeding truck hit the scooter near Karamdihi and fled from the scene.
The girl child, Sreyansi, was thrown out of her mother’s lap up to 20 metre distance and reportedly died on the spot. The two women along with the baby were soon shifted to Sundargarh where the doctors pronounced the child dead. As the condition of Muni turned serious, she was soon shifted to VIMSAR in Burla, where her condition was reported to be out of danger.
In the last six months, 18 persons have lost their lives and over 30 have been left in different stages of injuries in the district. Another disturbing fact has also come to fore that during the last five months, 21 persons have lost their lives due to various kinds of accidents. This number was 24 last year between January to August.
