Bhubaneswar: Farmers in Odisha will be paid Rs3,100 minimum support price (MSP) for paddy per quintal this Kharif season, state Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced Thursday.
“We had promised to pay Rs3,100 as MSP for paddy. The farmers will receive the promised amount which will now be credited to their accounts within 48 hours of selling paddy. We have already issued directions in this regard and work has already been begun accordingly,” Patra said.
Patra further explained that the Union Government’s hike of paddy MSP to Rs2,300 Wednesday has helped the state government. The state now has to add Rs800 extra per quintal instead of Rs917 before MSP revision to pay the farmers Rs3,100 per quintal.
The minister further assured that no undue weight reductions in the name of quality would be done during procurement.
