Berhampur: Three diphtheria patients undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here were discharged from home following their recovery from the disease Friday. The children were sent back to their homes in a special ambulance provided by the hospital authorities, Dr Narendra Behera, Head of the Department of Paediatrics told media persons here, Friday.
On the other hand, doctors, nursing officers, and healthcare personnel engaged in the treatment of the affected children were vaccinated for their protection, Dr Behera informed. The rest of the employees will be jabbed soon, he added. Notably, five kids in the age group of 10-12 were afflicted with diphtheria and admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital between June 12 and June 17 after they were referred from Rayagada and Koraput district headquarters hospitals. Special isolation rooms have been prepared for treatment of the diphtheria-affected kids in the Paediatric department of the hospital. Among the affected, two kids died during treatment while three of them were discharged following their recovery.
