Bhubaneswar: To boost the application of aquaculture technologies for the benefit of farmers in Arunachal Pradesh, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister of the northeastern state, Gabriel D Wangsu, and the department secretary, Hage Tari, visited the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) here, Friday. On the occasion, Wangsu surveyed different food and ornamental fish species, such as catla, rohu, mrigal, common carp, grass carp, silver barb, pengba, scampi, minor carps, koi carp, rosy barb, murrel and anabas.
Different aquaculture production systems such as pond culture, bio-floc and hatchery seed production systems of freshwater prawn, including automated feed dispensing systems were also showcased. The minister and the secretary also participated in an interactive session with the scientists and staffers of CIFA. Wangsu said a pool of progressive farmers from AP is being created and the initiative will play major role in bridging the research gap. ICAR-CIFA director PK Sahoo welcomed the minister and the secretary to the institution. Sahoo made a brief presentation on the ongoing research activities at the institute and other developmental programmes in different parts of the country
