Balasore: In a tragic incident, a meritorious college girl of Taharpur village under Rupsa police limits in Balasore district died of a rare disease, Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Sasmita Das, 20, daughter of Sukanta Das in Taharpur village. Sasmita was a third-year student of Kalinga College of Art at Bhubaneswar. According to sources, Sasmita had come to her village last Saturday to celebrate Raksha Bandhan festival.
However, she suddenly fell sick Sunday and was admitted to Balasore district headquarters hospital. As her condition deteriorated she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack Sunday night. She was diagnosed with GBS (Guillain-Barré syndrome) disease, a rare neurological disorder that causes nerve damage and undergoing treatment at the hospital. However, she succumbed to the disease Thursday night.
