Bhubaneswar: Students Against Corruption (SAC), an association of students, Thursday sought President Droupadi Murmu’s intervention into the irregularities in the recruitment to various posts, like Revenue Inspector (RIs) Assistant RIs, ICDS, conducted by Odisha Subordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) and demanded cancellation of the exams.
The President is scheduled visit the state October 23. In a letter to the President, Convener of SAC, Bibhuti Bhushan Mohapatra said, “The news of your visit to Odisha October 23 has made us anxious. You will be surprised to know that in Odisha, recruitment scams and the sale of jobs have become a big problem. The state government is silent as thousands of students take to the streets to protest against the recruitment scams. Widespread irregularities have come to light in the recent OSSSC RI, Amin and other examinations.”
In the letter, Mohapatra informed the President that following protests by students, the state Cabinet realised the irregularities and promised an investigation. “However, the government has failed to create an idea of transparency in the minds of the students by not cancelling the exams,” he said. Mahapatra said more than 5 lakh students are suffering mentally due to the irregularities. “As a mother, you can understand their pain better. We trust that you will cancel the exams and take steps towards rooting out corruption in recruitment,” he said.
