Bhubaneswar: At a time when there is a growing need for a skilled workforce in the emerging semiconductor sector, Institute of Technical Education (ITE) & Education Services (ITEES), Singapore is contemplating sending a proposal to the state government for providing semiconductor and IT-ITeS training in the state. This was revealed during a meeting of Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and a delegation led by CEO of ITE-ITEES Suresh Natarajan at Lok Seva Bhawan here, Monday. In the meeting, the focus was laid on Information Technology (IT) & IT-enabled Services (ITeS) sector and proposal for semiconductor training.
The meeting follows the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Singapore and his interaction with World Skill Centre interns regarding their international exposure for skill enhancement and the subsequent recent visit of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with Skill Development & Technical Education (SD&TE) Minister Sampad Chandra Swain and the Chief Secretary to the island country. With the state government’s strategic focus on fostering industrial growth and positioning the state as a hub for advanced manufacturing, the development of a skilled workforce in this sector has become a top priority. This aligns with the broader vision of creating a robust ecosystem under ‘Skilled in Odisha’ initiative, aimed at meeting the talent requirements of high-tech industries. By investing in specialised training programmes and forging industry partnerships, Odisha is poised to become a key player in the semiconductor value chain, contributing to the nation’s self-reliance in this crucial sector.
Apart from the Singapore delegation, Principal Secretary to SD&TE Department NBS Rajput, Principal Secretary to Electronics & IT Department Vishal Kumar Dev, the chief skills officer of the state government and additional secretary to SDTE department-cum-COO of the World Skills Centre Pinaki Patnaik were also present in the meeting. The delegates expressed their satisfaction with the ongoing programmes and emphasised the need for continuous global partnerships to further enhance Odisha’s skilling ecosystem. CEO of ITEES and chief skills officer of the state government emphasised on the need for training in IT-ITeS and the semiconductor sector in the state. They also said that a proposal will be sent in this regard soon.
