Bhubaneswar, Jan 21: The Flyeasy airline promoted by Bangalore-based ABC Aviation and Training private limited has promised the Airports Authority of India to launch a Bhubaneswar-Bangalore daily flight from mid-April.
Airline’s top brass met AAI officials and sought infrastructure to commence operations from Biju Patnaik International Airport to tap the market on the busy route.
Airline’s general manager (network and planning) refused to divulge details. He, however, made it clear Flyeasy is not a low-cost carrier (LCC) which implies the fares on the route are not going to be cheaper as expected by air passengers.
Notably, there is a daily flight from Bhubaneswar to Bangalore which is being operated by IndiGo.
On occasions, the route has 80 per cent occupancy due to lack of daily flights, said an official source.
The airline has one Embraer-190 aircraft that accommodates 110 passengers at a time.
The decision may prompt another LCC GoAir to introduce direct Bhubaneswar-Bangalore flights from the city. GoAir started operations from BPIA October 26, 2014 with four daily flights—two to New Delhi and one each to Mumbai and Kolkata.
Airport director Sharad Kumar said requisite infrastructure would be provided to the airline to give a boost to aviation sector in Orissa.
