SYRUPY EVENT
Bhubaneswar: A musical event titled ‘Rasagola’ was launched at Bhanja Kala Mandap here Monday on the eve of Hera Panchami, a post-Bahuda ritual wherein Lord Jagannath serves Rasagola to his consort Laxmi to dispel her anger.
The musical and audio-visual programme was attended by eminent singer Susumita Das to mark the festival.
Interacting with Orissa Post Das said, “It’s high time Odisha comes up with evidence on discovery of Rasagolla when a neighbouring state has received a GI tag for the sweet-meat’s recipe. Tradition and history corroborate the theory of origin of Rasagolla in Odisha. I have rendered a song based on Rasagolla which showcases its roots in our state. Balaram Das’ Dandi Ramayan written in the early part of 16th century has reference to use of ‘Rasagolla’ in Srimandir tradition. I hope, my musical video will touch every self-respecting Odia.”
Noted lyricist Devdas Chottray has penned the lyrics and music has been composed by Bibhuti Bhusan Gadanayak.
Earlier, a panel discussion, by eminent scholars, historians and researchers, took place at the venue Mandap where the history of the syrupy sweet was discussed.
The national launch of Rasagola took place in New Delhi in the presence of Chief Justice Dipak Mishra, Justice GB Patnaik, Gokul Patnaik and Amarendra Khatua July 13.
