A small Brazilian town where beautiful girls remain unmarried

The small Brazilian town of Noiva do Cordeiro situated in the hills has suddenly been in the limelight for a different reason altogether. The century-old town has a population of 600 women, 300 of who are desperate to fall in love and get married. Sadly there are no suitors.

This is because there are some rules the men do not like. First the men will have to stay in the village, wash dishes, clean toilets and help in cooking. According to one of the woman staying in this town, they are not anti-men but all are equal.

Since the women do not have husbands, they make the rules and also take most of the financial decisions. They are independent and do everything – from commercial farming to building their own houses. Hence men find themselves at the receiving end and do not marry the girls who are ready to get married. But even then they are content to stay in the town and not move elsewhere.

Unknown outside Brazil until now, the town hit the headlines after reports appeared that the town’s women were looking for husbands. It created a huge amount of male interest from around the world
