Rourkela: Two persons were killed when the bike they were travelling on met with a head-on collision with a truck Saturday night in Sundargarh district. The accident took place near Uparbahal Chowk on NH143 under the jurisdiction of the Bonai police station.
Police said Sunday that the two deceased, a man and a woman, were travelling on the bike when the accident occurred. The bike and the truck collided and both the riders were run over by the truck and died on the spot. One of the deceased has been identified as Pradeep Munda, the man who was driving the bike. However, the identity of the woman is yet to be established.
Immediately after the accident, enraged locals blocked the highway causing a huge traffic jam. Later senior police officials of Bonai including SDPO Swaraj Devta held discussions with the irate crowd. Following assurances from the police that measures will be put in place to prevent accidents, the agitation was withdrawn. “We immediately rushed to the spot and held discussions with the people. After we assured them that proper measures would be put in place, they withdrew their agitation,” Devta said
