Accused flees with police vehicle in Mayurbhanj, two suspended

Baripada/Udala: An ASI and a havildar of Suliapada police station in Mayurbhanj district were put under suspension Friday for dereliction of duty after an accused escaped from police custody Thursday.

The suspended cops are ASI SN Barik and havildar DK Dash.

According to a source in the police, a woman was injured in a road accident near Kujidihi under Suliapada police limits Thursday evening. On being informed, ASI Barik and havildar Dash reached the spot and rescued the injured woman and sent her to Baripada district headquarters hospital. Thereafter, they admitted Sanjib Jena, the driver of the vehicle and a resident of Manoharpur area in West Bengal, to Suliapada government hospital for treatment.

Taking advantages of the cops not being watchful, Jena managed to flee from the hospital, and that was too with the police motorcycle.

Mayurbhanj superintendent of police Parmar Smit Parshottamdas took action against the two cops for negligence in discharging their duty.
