Khaira: A team of Odisha Crime Branch probing into the alleged murder of Paralakhemundi assistant conservator of forests (ACF) Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra Wednesday recorded the statements of his parents and other family members.
According to an official, the four-member team led by its DSP Gyana Ranjan Mishra reached the ACF’s ancestral house at Begunia village under Khaira block of Balasore in the morning.
The Crime Branch officials quizzed Soumya’s father Abhiram Mohapatra, mother Tulasi, maternal-uncle Sitikantha Panda and other members of the family in connection with the case.

The team recorded statements while questioning the family members on Soumya’s previous phone calls and Bidyabharati Panda’s alleged relationship with Gajapati divisional forest officer (DFO) Sangram Keshari Behera, the ACF’s father informed.
“The Crime Branch team recorded statements of the complainant (Soumya’s father) and other family members before interrogating Bidyabharati Panda. Two special women officials assisted the probing team during the process,” Additional Director General of Police (CB) Sanjeeb Panda said.
The officials will proceed to Kaptipada in Mayurbhanj and question the deceased’s wife Bidyabharati later in the day. A questionnaire has been prepared for the purpose, the ADG added.
