ACF Soumya death: NHRC seeks status report in six weeks

Paralakhemundi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Wednesday sought a status report of the ongoing probe into Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra death incident.

Odisha Police DG Abhay and Additional Chief Secretary of state Forest and Environment department Mona Sharma have been asked to submit their reports within the next six weeks, the NHRC notice stated.

Meanwhile, several more persons are expected to be quizzed in connection with the case. Odisha Forest Minister’s former private secretary Dipti Ranjan Behera would be quizzed in this connection soon, a senior official of Crime Branch said.

Father of the deceased ACF Abhiram Mohapatra has alleged that sudden transfer of the PS to Koraput has strengthened the doubt that he was giving protection to key accused Gajapati DFO.

The probing agency is also likely to question the deceased ACF’s wife Bidyabharati Panda once again, the senior Crime Branch official added.
