ACF Soumya suffered burn injuries inside quarters: Crime Branch

Soumya suffered burn injuries

Paralakhemundi: In a sensational disclosure, a Crime Branch team that had visited deceased Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra’s quarters in Paralakhemundi Thursday said that Soumya sustained burn injuries inside his official quarters.

The Crime Branch team led by Crime Branch DSP Bijay Kumar Mallik along with Paralakhemundi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ramkrushna Pati had visited the house Thursday.

While informing about what led them to conclude that the forest officer had suffered burn injuries at his quarters, Mallik said a piece of mosquito net placed on the skylight which is at a height of nine feet has been found melted.

“Similarly, some portions of backdoor have burned and some partially burnt clothes have also been found,” he said, adding that despite close inspection they did not find any sign of disturbance outside the house, suggesting the incident occurred inside the house.

The team also found some documents including letters written by Soumya’s wife Bidyabharati.

Notably, Soumya allegedly suffered serious burn injuries at his official residence in Paralakhemundi while his wife was also present July 12. A severely burnt Soumya was rescued and rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Paralakhemundi. He had suffered 90 per cent burn injuries. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and from there to a private hospital in Cuttack. He succumbed while undergoing treatment there.
