Tirtol: Odia actors Sabyasachi and Archita tied the nuptial knot Monday at a fort in Rajasthan. On the very same day Odisha’s own Chhapaak girl, Pramodini Roul also got married to her hero.
Pramodini, a resident of Kanakpur village under Tirtol police limits in Jagatsinghpur district tied the nuptial knot with Saroj Kumar Sahu of Jhintipatna near Balakati on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Saroj has been with Pramodini since the day when she became an acid attack victim in 2009. Saroj has been a great source of support for Pramodini both mentally and physically. Saroj, who works as a medical representative in Cuttack, has become the real hero, at least for Pramodini.
The acid attack may have left permanent physical scars for Pramodini, but those did not affect Saroj’s love for her.
While their ring ceremony was held in Lucknow on Valentine’s Day in 2018, the marriage was held following all Vedic rituals with family members and friends attending it and blessing them.
April 18, 2009, the fateful day
Pramodini can never forget this day how hard she tries. On that fateful day, she had had acid thrown over her face and suddenly the world around her seemed dark.
Then she was a Plus II Arts student at Adikabi Sarala Das College at Tirtol. Santosh Kumar Bedant, an Army man of Bhadrak, developed a one-sided love with her. He wanted to marry her. Though she turned down his advances, he proposed marriage to her family. And the proposal was rejected too.
Little did she know then the turn of events that were about to happen. One day he waylaid her when she going to college and created a huge furore. Luckily on that day, Pramodini’s friends were with her who gave him an earful.
Santosh riding pillion on a motorcycle April 18, 2009 approached her and threw acid on her. She suffered burns on her face and all over her body.
Pramodini was rushed to the hospital for treatment. But then as they say after all bad things good does finally happen. It was at the hospital he met Saroj. Incidentally Saroj was a friend of the physiotherapy nurse attending to Pramodini.
Love blossomed between the two. Then Pramodini had said, “His constant support and words of encouragement helped me recover. More than physically, I was shattered mentally and it was Saroj who helped me regain my strength. After the attack I had had a kind of bad idea about men. It was Saroj who, I can say, forced me to change my way of thinking towards the men.”
