Balasore: Despite awareness campaigns, there seems to be no let-up in atrocities on women in Odisha, as miscreants allegedly threw acid on another woman Sunday over a soured love affair.
Police said she received severe burn injuries after two-bike borne youths hurled acid on her near Bhaskarganj area, close to Sahadevkhunta in this district.
The woman was riding a scooter on her way to the market when the two intercepted her. When she stopped the vehicle, the two threw acid on her and fled. Passers-by rushed her to the district hospital in Balasore. She was later shifted to the SCB in Cuttack as her condition deteriorated. Doctors said the woman has been kept under medical observation.
Interestingly, the medical report of the woman does not substantiate an acid attack on the ‘victim’. DSP (Crime) Sudarshan Das said that the medical submitted by doctors at the SCB Medical College and Hospital stated burn injuries sustained by the woman were not due to acid attack. “It is possibly a fall-out of a business dispute. The woman sustained burn injuries when she visited Sahadevkhunta to set afire some documents in the office of DEL Money, a financial company. According to another report, the woman deliberately burnt her cheek to put the onus on some youths. Police have received a complaint that the woman had herself burnt her cheek and suspected that the attack was the fallout of a love affair or business enmity.
