ACP in soup over high-handedness

Cuttack: A senior official of the Commissionerate Police received criticism from several quarters for his alleged high-handedness in dealing with common people.

It has been alleged that Cuttack zone-2 assistant commissioner of police (ACP) SK Saifuddin slapped a man, who had participated in a rally of Milita Nisha Nibaran Abhiyan and Madamukti Yubavahini in the Badambadi area of the city Tuesday. A video of the said incident went viral on social media.

According to sources, an argument ensued between Saifuddin and some activists of the two outfits when police tried to stop the rally at Badambadi. Enraged, Saiffudin slapped one of the participants.

“The participants of the rally were supposed to take food at Badambadi. Police stopped us and assaulted a few of us. We would hold a meeting soon to discuss our future course of action,” said Soumyaranjan Mohanty, an activist of Milita Nisha Nibarana Abhiyan.

When contacted ACP Saifuddin admitted that he had slapped a man during the rally. “There were traffic snarls due to the rally. Police tried to stop the rally and ease traffic. Some participants did not listen to the police. While preventing them from moving ahead, I slapped a person,” he said.
