Actress Simran’s death: Family seeks CBI probe

Sambalpur: Nearly a month after the mysterious death of ‘Selfie Bebo’ fame, Sambalpuri actress, Simran Singh, who was found dead under a bridge, her family Saturday demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

The police have not yet arrested everyone involved in the case. Earlier, Simran’s husband Yug Suna was detained by Belpada police for interrogation. But there were no further developments in the case.

Expressing dissatisfaction, the family of Simran staged a dharna in front of the Jharsuguda collectorate demanding a probe by the CBI.

When asked, the family alleged that an FIR was registered against Yug, his mother and uncle Ruku Suna. However, the police have arrested only her husband and the two others have not been arrested.

Demanding an impartial investigation into the case, Simran’s family urged the administration to take necessary steps for that. They have also demanded compensation, a source said.

Simran’s accused husband was taken on three-day remand by Sambalpur police from January 27 to 29 for interrogation in the case.

The 20-year-old album artiste was found dead under a bridge across the Mahanadi near Goira Matha January 3.

Later, a voice message of Simran came out in which she is heard crying and saying how she had completely broken down. She had sent the voice message to Yug on WhatsApp before she was found dead.

Belapada Police arrested Yug January 4 on the basis of the complaint filed by the former’s mother. The police had registered a case (56/18) under Sections 366 & 376 of IPC and Section 3 of the POCSO Act.
