Address civic issues by Oct 10, officials told

Cuttack: The district administration and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) have decided to fix issues like infrastructure and other civic problems by October 10 as part of preparations for the upcoming Dussehra celebrations in the Silver City.

Presiding over a preparatory meeting in this regard, Collector Aravind Agrawal directed the officials concerned to ensure repair of roads and streetlights apart from clearing the choked drains within the deadline, said a district administration official.

“The officials have been asked to address all civic issues by October 10. The administration has prepared a list of civic issues to be addressed on priority basis. A 15-member squad has been formed to inspect the work,” the official added.

According to sources, the Collector asked the officials to ensure round-the-clock drinking water supply and uninterrupted power in the city from October 15 to 21. “The administration would arrange mobile toilets at some strategic locations here during Dussehra. The CMC has been asked to ensure sanitation and dig up a temporary pond at Debigada Ghat on Kathajodi riverbank for immersion of idols,” the official added.

Meanwhile, the administration has asked puja committees to strictly follow the plastic ban during the festival. “We have asked puja committees not to use plastic flowers and artificial thermocol for decorating pandals. They have been told to avoid chemical colours for idol making,” the official highlighted.

Notably, the Dussehra festival in the city is scheduled to commence October 15 and the immersion ceremony October 20.
