Puri: The adharapana ritual of the Srimandir deities will to be performed Tuesday, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) sources said Monday.
According to the tradition, adharapana (a delicious drink) will be offered to Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra and their sister Devi Subhadra on their respective chariots near the Lions’ Gate of the 12th century shrine, a day after the Suna Besha. The adharapana and bada singhar rituals will be performed after the Madhyan Dhupa ritual on the respective chariots. Later, Garuda Sayana ritual will be conducted.
Sources said special cylindrical pots, with the height matching with that of the lips of the idols, have been prepared for the occasion. As per the customs, after offering of the drinks to the deities on chariots, the pots are damaged, so that the drink can spill and the ghostly spirits, who come to the Holy City to catch a glimpse of the deities, return to their places after enjoying the delicious pana, sources said.
