Balasore: In view of possible flood situation in north Orissa, the district administration has stepped up preparedness to deal with the situation. An emergency meeting was held at Sadbhabana Hall in the Collectorate here Saturday while District Collector Ramesh Chandra Rout presided over the meeting.
He laid stress on taking precautionary measures to save lives, properties, relief and rescue operation particularly in flood-prone areas like Jaleswar, Bhograi, Baliapal, Balasore sadar and Remuna blocks. BDOs and tehsildars were asked to take immediate steps to remove illegal occupation at some palaces for smooth passage of flood waters. The civil supplies department, health department, fire department, livestock department, ODRAF and NDRAF were asked to be ready to deliver necessary services to the people in relief and rescue operations.
The Collector has asked all BDOs, tehsildars and the district emergency officer to ensure running of 24X7 control room. Rout stressed use of various WhatsApp groups and cell phones for communication to provide emergency service.
He asked the authorities to keep motorised boats, normal boats, life jackets, launches ready, essential commodities, dry food and kerosene ready in flood prone areas.
Health officials were asked to stock up on medicine kits, anti-venom injections, halogen tablets, bleaching powder, and ORS powders at Anganwadi centres.
Tehsildars were asked to inform in advance about the need for polythene sheets.
