Ganjam/Gajapati: With the retreat of the cyclonic storm ‘Titli’, the Ganjam and Gajapati administration turned its attention to restoration work in places that were damaged by unprecedented rains.
While Ganjam and Rayagada are racing back to normalcy, the state government has now made Gajapati its main focus for restoration work as the southern district emerged as the worst-affected by the cyclone and the floods.
Directed by the Chief Minister, the District Collectors swung into action and directed officials concerned to visit affected villages and prepare a report of the loss suffered in three days.
Necessary action will be taken after the reports are submitted to the state government, Ganjam block development officer (BDO) Jyotishankar Ray said.
A special team including Gram Rojgar Sevak (GRS), teachers, Odisha Jivika Mission workers and Anganwandi workers was formed to visit affected places and prepare the report.
Heads of departments of panchayati raj, health, veterinary, agriculture, horticulture and energy, have been directed to help the district administration in the restoration work. They have been asked to stay back in affected regions till the situation is brought back to normal.
Meanwhile, ODRAF, NDRF and fire services units were deployed in some parts of Gajapati district as the situation remained grim.
Meanwhile all major roads in Gajapati have been restored, especially links to all district headquarters and blocks have been established. Now the connectivity between block to panchayat and panchayat to villages is of prime importance. For this, the panchayati raj department will coordinate with block officers to get the fallen trees cleared as soon as possible.
The district headquarters hospital (DHH) and the Collectorate in Gajapati were provided with electricity and soon generator sets will be used to supply pipe water to all places. 50 electrical gangs (transformers) are also being sent to the district for restoration and supply of electricity.
