Rayagada: The district administration has decided to take up infrastructure growth in Rayagada town here.
Presided by District Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, a meeting was held in this connection where the administration took several decisions related to infrastructure growth in the city.
The administration decided to upgrade the auditorium near municipality office at a cost of Rs 7cr. Similarly, a planetarium would be constructed at Antariguda with Rs 12cr.
Decision were also taken regarding upgradation of the district headquarters hospital (DHH) at a cost of Rs 7cr, construction of an ANM training center, community hall for police, second bridge over river Jhanjabati near Majhigharani temple and a district disability rehabilitation center.
Moreover, in bid to reduce traffic congestion in the town, the district administration has decided to build a bypass road from Pitamahal village to Sirikona village with a connecting road from Sirikona to Rayagada town, reports said.
The demand for a bypass road has been lying unfulfilled since formation of the district 1992.
There are many major industrial houses like JK Paper Mill, Indian Metal and Ferro Alloys (IMFA) and Vedanta Alumina Limited (VAL) besides hundreds of medium and small scale industries operating in the district. So, thousands of heavy vehicles come and leave the industries to export and import the produce through the town adding to traffic woes.
However, with lack of designated vending points, absence of parking facilities, unauthorized shops and Kiosks on both sides of the road has increased the trouble for daily commuters.
Keeping the trouble of people in mind and the increasing number of accident, the collector took the step to build the bypass road.
“A bypass has become the need of snarls. A road map for road from Pitamahal village to Sirikona village, which is stretch of 14 kms, besides another four kms of connecting road from Sirikona village to outskirts of Rayagada town has been prepared,” the collector said adding that land acquisition for the purpose will begin soon and tender for the project has already been floated.
